The immediate problem is that MGS is not able to downlink all of its engineering data; so Frank wondered whether attitude predicts could be used to fill the gaps. The MGS problem is being worked by the Project. The following e-mail from Boris summarizes status with regard to SPICE kernels. We have begun collecting the TCK predicts (see below) and will get the SA and HGA predicts as those become available. Users may need to integrate the predicts with telemetry-based reconstructions. LMA s/c team has been making and releasing to the project predicted spacecraft attitude CKs since June 15th. These files, each covering a week, were delivered to the DOM, from which they were copied to the naif server, the same way as the reconstructed files. I just talked to Dale Howell and he said that they have already made and released predicted files covering the whole anomaly period all the way through Aug 18. Solar array and HGA prediction is a different story. Although at the moment LMA folks are not making these and not even modeling s/a and hga in their tool, Dale said that he can quickly change the tool to output s/a and hga gimbals. We decided that it will be the easiest if he does just that and then sends the gimbal data in a text format to me; I'll convert them to CK format. I'll let you know when predicted s/a and hga CK will be available.
