53111311.RSR 62.0 In the past, there have been occasions when it was impossible to collect occultation data because all of the RSR's at the desired station were assigned to other projects. This has been true on several dates recently when Mars Express was using all four RSR's at Canberra or Madrid for bistatic radar observations. VLBI versions of the RSR (VSR) are available at each station. These are designed for very high sampling rates (and very low numbers of bits), but in many ways are functionally equivalent to an RSR. The Radio Science Systems Group at JPL has developed software which converts VSR output to a format that mimics RSR output. There are minor differences in the header information, such as the subchannel and the ADC date being 0, which may be useful in identifying VSR-derived RSR's. Eleven of these files are reported here, some dating back to 2005/187. In each of these cases there was a conflict with a Mars Express bistatic radar experiment. In the processing so far, we have not detected differences in the data. But more sensitive measures will be applied shortly as the files move toward the occultation inversion processing steps.
