Starting with a new sequence on 2006/012 the spacecraft is unable to support ingress occultations fully because of limits to the HGA pointing. This is the same problem that prevented regular collection of egress occultation data during most of the mission until a few months ago; but it is now affecting ingress. The "spikes" appear to be sidelobes in the spacecraft HGA pattern and suggest that the spacecraft is maeuvering out of the Earth-point orientation before geometric occultation. It may be possible to recover some ionospheric information from a few of these ingress occultations; but the plan is to discontinue ingress data collection shortly and not resume until the HGA limit is no longer a problem (several months from now).
