We continued to have problems with spurs and low RMS values at DSS 65. The first measurement had low signal levels. I changed the attenuation values before the second measurement, but that didn't improve the signal levels much (even though it should've). Following the DSS 65 pass on DOY 034, Sal contacted the station and asked them to look into the spurs problem. He received a reply today (please see below). You mentioned the LO injection level to the mixer in a previous email. If this was the cause, it would affect any antenna. But since we've seen the problems at DSS 65 only, Sal and I ruled that one out. Sal contacted the Ops Chief who passed on our request to the station to switch to X-Hemt (another low noise amplifier). The station personnel weren't able to switch in time for the third measurement. I was troubleshooting between measurements, and it seemed that the signal levels were slightly better over the X-LCP channel. Hence, for the third measurement, I switched to X-LCP to make sure this wasn't a channel problem. Same problems were observed (low signal levels and spurs). For the 4th measurement, the station switched to X-Hemt, and that solved the problem. There were no more spurs, and the RMS values were back to normal. (By the way, I saw the signal level drop a few seconds before the signal completely disappeared. Since our FFT display doesn't update frequently, this might be just the signal disappearing for ingress. I wouldn't normally be concerned, but I just thought I'd mention it to make sure it's not the incorrect occ times error in the sequence that you've noticed in mm111). In short .. the cause is a power supply problem with the Maser. I let the Ops Chief know that, and he'll pass that on to the station. Also, I left a message for Sal, and he'll contact the station. By the time it was restarted, it was already the beginning of the measurement. The DSP was configured manually, and that took a couple of minutes. Recording didn't start until 14:43:45. Since I configured this measurement manually to X-LCP, I forgot to change the transmission configuration back. So yes, the data was collected, but it wasn't recorded anywhere and it's lost. Sorry!
