Oops! I did that again! > > Can you retransmit data from many days ago? > If so, please try; it's probably better than > waiting for DSOT. they may not have it > anyway. Yes, we can. The disk (at the station) can hold up to about 15 hours of data (at 5k sampling rate), and then new data starts overwriting the old one. Since there was no major recording on the disk by other spacecrafts since DOY 048, I expect to be able to retransmit the data. I already tried to retransmit one data set, but I got a message that no records were found during the times that were requested. I then took a closer look at the scripts, and there it was .. a scripting error! And one that's not easy to catch. We monitored all of the measurements on DOY 048 and 049. The scripts ran OK, and the signal was there when it was supposed to be. Everything seemed to be running OK. We normally setup the DSP to record the data on disk which then gets transmitted to JPL in near real-time. If the data doesn't make it to JPL, we try retransmitting it from the disk. If this doesn't work, that would indicate that the data was not recorded on the disk to begin with. Taking a closer look at the script files, I found that the DSP was not recording. Therefore, sorry to say, all measurements were lost. The reason why 8710i was captured is because there was a SPAR initialization failure, and we had to manually restart the DSP, and in doing so, we asked for the data to be recorded on the disk. And 8718i was captured because, as I've mentioned before, the script did not run and I had to manually configure the DSP. I understand that this is a big loss of data in one shot, particularly when it's due to a scripting error. One person scripted all the passes on DOY 048 and 049, and when an error is made on the first script, it tends to carry over to the other scripts until it is noticed. What made things worse was that this was a long weekend, and with you unable to query the data, there was no indication that something was wrong. I've been training a new person to help with scripting, and she's been doing great. This was her first error, and she felt so terrible about it .. I saw tears! I know she'll be scripting with extreme care from now on.
