We've been getting a few of them! As you know, the four measurements over the weekend at SPC-10 all failed (SPAR), and then the first measurement Monday morning also failed. We then requested a DSP reboot, and the remaining three measurements on Monday were OK. Measurement 9000i (Wow!) went OK, and hopefully the remaining two will go OK as well. The DSP started giving plenty of error about 40 minutes before the measurement. The station tried to reboot the RSCP, but the errors came back. They then had to take the DSP down. He reported this morning that the POCA QUAD interfaces failed, and that they are working on the DSP. He also mentioned that this is probably the reason we've been having many SPAR initialization failures lately. Sal reported a couple of hours ago that they found a bad QUAD SIA card, and bad POCA. Both were replaced and the DSP seems to be working OK. The next SPC-10 pass will start in about 4 1/2 hours (1:05 a.m. local). It's his belief that DSP problems led to bad time tags on the data and that's why it's not been possible to get those seven occultations into the query server. He actually went and looked for the data from 8976i, and couldn't find anything. Ray has been our most successful data tracker over the past few months; so I'm inclined to give what he says some weight. The fact that people at Goldstone found real problems in the DSP makes me wonder also whether Ray may not be correct. If the original data are bad, that should be apparent from the tape files Sal collects (assuming he was able to do that). I'm not going to harass Data Control any more about these seven occultations unless we learn something new. If Sal gets the data on tape (and especially if it turns out to be usable), that's good. But I'm not going to worry about it more at the Stanford end. Let's hope the hardware changes at SPC 10 solve the time tag, SPA-R, and other problems all at once.
