(calculated from 01-089-- date of AEM commanded spin unloads) Average daily usage over the last 16 days = 27.87 g/day Spacecraft Mass = 674.52 Kg (dry mass) + 5.289 Kg (Ox) + 26.39Kg (Fuel) = 706.20Kg (Total Mass) Note: The daily fuel consumption has been much more variable since initiating the AEM commanded spin unloads. This is due to the fact that the benefits of the AEM change are only realized during communication orbits, and the amount of DSN coverage varies day to day. We have also seen an increase in fuel consumption over the last week as the spin unloads have been more frequently occurring on non-Comm orbits. charset="us-ascii" Content-Length: 5222 Status: RO Hi Frank, I gave you some background to the changes the project was implementing to the solar arrays at the Radio Science Team meeting. Now, it turns out, they decided to change the angle of the arrays to get less sun (by 25 degrees). That took about a week to accomplish. As I write this, MGS is in a contingency mode, in case you have not heard. We will be losing occultation data due to the low SNR from the LGA, so expect a degradation in gravity data as well. The Project chose to be stay in this mode for the weekend after initial attempts with the sequence was not successful. The solar array issues will be revisited next week and they may be changed again... that may have been the cause of the contingency mode - we don't know. Sorry that this is not too convenient for data analysis but we can't really complain either as the Project has to do what they need to do. We were commenting yesterday at the PSG that the environment is different in the extended mission. The priorities are to keep the spacecraft working through 2004. At best, the Project will let us know in advance about their plans for the solar array, but we have to keep our eyes open and expect to do more labor-intensive modelling.
