The interruptions are almost periodic in the sense that there is good signal for about 35 s, then a complete loss for about 30 s. The pattern bridges ingress -- so the same pattern holds both when there is carrier and when there is only noise. The DSN schedule indicates "PTNTL RFI". Can you find out whether the Goldstone Solar System Radar was running and what it's transmit times were? I'm suspicious that GSSR is overloading the front end of the DSS 15 receiving system. Can you find out whether telemetry was lost prior to the radio occultations? If we're taking such a hit in the open loop data, I would expect the other systems to be suffering also. On the other hand, the spectra don't look bad (no spurs). In the past, we've not had trouble when GSSR operated in parallel with MGS radio occultations. Does your NOPE know about turning off CONCSAN? On the other hand, if your receiver 's front end is being saturated rather than the PLL tracking the wrong frequency, then it appears to me that Voyager 1 and MGS should have swapped DSS-25 and DSS-15. Anyway you can check the detailed schedule (a crude overview is below) at Steve's web site: http://echo/asteroids/1999kw4_goldstone/html/1999kw4_planning.html#Goldstone and verify that we are talking same UT dates, but with a 30-40 sec. RTT, I can't check the state of the transmitter in detail without the logs that are still at DSS-14, and I am at JPL, trying to work on proposals. Given the burst times of the RFI, it seems consistent with transmitting at 1999 KW4, and the time span seems plausible. It actually seems like you should have seen more RFI... It's unfortunate that the asteroid started out at such a southerly declination, since DSS-15 is south of DSS-14. Of course, we told the DSN not to put an antenna there (another km to the southeast and there would be a large hill blocking direct sight of DSS-14). I would guess that the geometry for this asteroid, and Ostro's desire to get high-resolution (I.e., wide-bandwidth) ranging were the factors that made this RFI particularly bad. The rest of the tracks are bistatic with Arecibo transmitting at S-band, but it looks like you are done from the 7-Day Schedule. Again, my apologies!
