I have never seen this before (that I can recall, anyway). The start time for the ECH file last night was 2001-06-17T24:00:00.000 rather than 2001-06-18T00:00:00. Everything worked fine, anyway, but the resulting CSV file was named CSV1168A.ECH rather than CSV1169A.ECH as it should have been. Also, the date on the plots of engineering data channels was 2001-06-17 rather than 2001-06-18. When I ran daily2cum today, the CSV1168A.ECH file overwrote the file from yesterday with the same name in /users/c3/CD3. Daily2cum stopped when it saw that the corresponding label file already existed (by name anyway) in CD3. I renamed today's CSV1168A.ECH to CSV1169A.ECH as it should be, and updated the name and contents of the label file accordingly. I then rewrote today's backup tape and ran daily2cum again. Finally I restored the original CSV1168A.ECH and CSV1168A.LBL from yesterday's backup, and ran daily2cum to move them from CD4 to CD3. All seems okay now... There is a loss of synchronism between the POCA timing and the timing of the data sampling. There was no reconstructed orbit (SPK file) for the remaining three occultations (or any others since), so we postponed raising an alarm until the new file was in hand today. As expected, the remaining three orbits at DSS 45 on 2001/169 have sawtooth problems. more ominous is the fact that ALL five orbits collected at DSS 45 on the following day are also bad. Joe's processing has not yet gone beyone 2001/170; but we will advise you as more results are available. Since a large fraction of our data are being collected at SPC 40 these days, frequent sawtooth problems cut significantly into our volume of good data. To date, we have not found a way to salvage data that are corrupted by the sawtooth, so each contaminated occultation is essentially lost so far as the atmospheric profile is concerned. I recommend that someone look into this as soon as possible. It could be that the problem has corrected itself since 2001/170; but the fact that 13 occultations in a row are suddenly bad is not good news. I suspect that Sal ends up with this assignment, but I'll leave it to the people at JPL to figure out the management response.
