First, you should've been able to query for the first measurement. It was played back successfully. As for why there was no signal .. The predicts were good, the script ran OK, there were no RSR errors, and the spacecraft was OK, so I thought that it must've been a station problem. I checked the Deep Space Mission System (DSMS) Daily Status Report, and it showed the station as DSS-25, but there were no DR#s or notes that would indicate a real-time switch from DSS-15 to DSS-25. I called the Ops Chief and he said that the original plan was for DSS-25 to track, not DSS-15! I checked the sequence again and the DSN schedule that I have, and they both showed DSS-15! I spoke to Pauline Hwang and she confirmed that it should've been DSS-15. Our three no-carrier plots do show the station as 15; so the radio science equipment was at least following your instructions! And, to my eye, it looks as though the noise we recorded was approximately the expected amplitude. Pauline Hwang made several calls, and this is what she found out: DSS-27 was scheduled to support CLU1 (Cluster1), but DSS-27 was having antenna problems, so Gene Brower was asked if MGS can move to to DSS-25 so that CLU1 can have DSS-15, and he said that it was OK not realizing that it would affect anybody's data. Usually there are notes in the DSMS Daily Status Report about real- time changes like that, but the Ops Chief at the time did not put anything, so when the Ops Chief looked at the log today, there were no indications of real-time changes for that pass. Actually, not many people were aware of this change. The DSN scheduler didn't know about it until today. During the final DSP days and before the long break in occultations, the Ops Chiefs got used to calling me when real-time changes occur, but I guess I need to remind them again! Guess I could've caught this if I monitored the pass! If I can't monitor a pass, I try to at least check that the script executed OK and predict loaded fine (both usually occur during pre-Cal), and that's what I did on Saturday. Sorry! pass.
