I think it would be worth some investigating if you don't already know the cause. DSS 65 data have generally poorer SNR (5 dB low for MOST of the occultations recently, not so bad further back). The symptoms are consistent with a significantly higher noise level, which decays very soon after ingress -- mimicking what you'd expect if the weather was very bad on the horizon and then you pointed the ground antenna at zenith as soon as the signal went away. This happened on 6 of the 7 occultations on the most recent day; the 7th was perfectly normal. Some of the 65 data collection was replicated at DSS 63, where there was no anomalous behavior. So this appears to be a problem at 65, and getting worse (only 2 such anomalous occultations to report yesterday). At DSS 15 we are seeing 1 dB quasi-sinusoidal variations in carrier level during most of the time leading up to ingress. The period is (very roughly) 2-3 minutes. If these are not accompanied by frequency changes, there may be no impact on Hinson's ability to recover the atmospheric profiles; but we don't know that yet. We've seen the same oscillations in the Monitor AGC data on the one occultation we've checked, so the problem is not in the RSR system. Could you look into these (perhaps with Sal) and let us know what you find? The anomalies are pretty obvious in the BRO plots, which you should be able to find in magellan:/users/z00/BRO based on the dates and times in the Health Report anomaly section. The ones that are low are the data on DOY 128, so it may have been a bad weather day. I'll start investigating.
