The RSR1A plot has high-frequency modulation on the carrier amplitude but the amplitude of the modulation appears to be small (perhaps 0.2 dB peak-to-peak). I tried plotting the data with a different averaging; we routinely use 1 sec averages. Using 0.1 sec averaging, I see nearly 1 dB peak-to-peak modulation with a period very close to 1.2 sec. This is pretty uniform through the recording period. The amplitude may be slightly less going into occultation, but the period is 1.2 sec throughout. I'm going to look at the RSR2A data with the same averaging. There's nothing obvious in the 1 sec data, but I'm being cautious. On the basis of these plots, I'm apprehensive about RSR1A at SPC 60 in general. When we see little or no modulation in our quick look plots, we may simply have modulation at high enough frequencies that all effects are being washed out in our 1 sec plots. If all goes well, it should take about 15 minutes to rename and reboot each system. The current mgrs will then become mgrs-tmp, and vice versa. First order of business will be to make sure the two machines are functional. This includes editing some scripts which need to know the current hostname. Next will be setting up accounts on the new mgrs for users other than Joe and me. For the near future, the only way to use the new mgrs will be by sitting at the console and typing in at the keyboard. This means Kerri (data queries and processing), Matt (other data management), and I will have to time share. It will not be possible to set up a window for mgrs on either magellan or nhabel. If Kerri works primarily in the morning and Matt primarily in the afternoon, this may not be too inconvenient. The system locks the screen automatically after a few minutes of inactivity, however, so we'll have to be careful about wandering away. With no remote access, the only way to clear a locked screen is to do a hard reset (turn the power off). The Joe/Dave/Dick/etal 11 AM conference may have to work around the edges tomorrow. We need to meet, however, to discuss vacations and travel as well as the SOPC situation and any preparations needed for the upcoming RST meeting in Toulouse. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- From aseel@godzilla.jpl.nasa.gov Wed Jun 5 07:00:07 2002 Received: from godzilla.jpl.nasa.gov (godzilla.jpl.nasa.gov [137.78.78.95]) by magellan.stanford.edu (8.11.6/8.11.6) with ESMTP id g551s1O22613; Tue, 4 Jun 2002 18:54:01 -0700 (PDT) Received: from localhost (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by godzilla.jpl.nasa.gov (8.9.3/8.9.3) with SMTP id SAA28983; Tue, 4 Jun 2002 18:54:11 -0700 (PDT) Message-Id: <200206050154.SAA28983@godzilla.jpl.nasa.gov> Date: Tue, 4 Jun 2002 18:54:11 -0700 (PDT) From: Aseel Anabtawi Reply-To: Aseel Anabtawi Subject: SPC-60 RSR1 Data To: rsimpson@magellan.stanford.edu, joe@nova.stanford.edu, kusza@magellan.stanford.edu MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-MD5: cCMKXjHU4MMuIC76RZ0SSQ== X-Mailer: dtmail 1.2.1 CDE Version 1.2.1 SunOS 5.6 sun4u sparc Content-Length: 624 Hello, Early tomorrow morning, Andre Jongeling (RSR group) will be collecting some RSR1 test data.
