If all goes well, it should take about 15 minutes to rename and reboot each system. The current mgrs will then become mgrs-tmp, and vice versa. First order of business will be to make sure the two machines are functional. This includes editing some scripts which need to know the current hostname. Next will be setting up accounts on the new mgrs for users other than Joe and me. For the near future, the only way to use the new mgrs will be by sitting at the console and typing in at the keyboard. This means Kerri (data queries and processing), Matt (other data management), and I will have to time share. It will not be possible to set up a window for mgrs on either magellan or nhabel. If Kerri works primarily in the morning and Matt primarily in the afternoon, this may not be too inconvenient. The system locks the screen automatically after a few minutes of inactivity, however, so we'll have to be careful about wandering away. With no remote access, the only way to clear a locked screen is to do a hard reset (turn the power off). The Joe/Dave/Dick/etal 11 AM conference may have to work around the edges tomorrow. We need to meet, however, to discuss vacations and travel as well as the SOPC situation and any preparations needed for the upcoming RST meeting in Toulouse. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- From aseel@godzilla.jpl.nasa.gov Wed Jun 5 07:00:12 2002 Received: from godzilla.jpl.nasa.gov (godzilla.jpl.nasa.gov [137.78.78.95]) by magellan.stanford.edu (8.11.6/8.11.6) with ESMTP id g551s1O22613; Tue, 4 Jun 2002 18:54:01 -0700 (PDT) Received: from localhost (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by godzilla.jpl.nasa.gov (8.9.3/8.9.3) with SMTP id SAA28983; Tue, 4 Jun 2002 18:54:11 -0700 (PDT) Message-Id: <200206050154.SAA28983@godzilla.jpl.nasa.gov> Date: Tue, 4 Jun 2002 18:54:11 -0700 (PDT) From: Aseel Anabtawi Reply-To: Aseel Anabtawi Subject: SPC-60 RSR1 Data To: rsimpson@magellan.stanford.edu, joe@nova.stanford.edu, kusza@magellan.stanford.edu MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-MD5: cCMKXjHU4MMuIC76RZ0SSQ== X-Mailer: dtmail 1.2.1 CDE Version 1.2.1 SunOS 5.6 sun4u sparc Content-Length: 624 Hello, Early tomorrow morning, Andre Jongeling (RSR group) will be collecting some RSR1 test data. While swaping RSR1A and RSR2A cables, someone at the station touched RSR2B's cable and the signal level dropped significantly. Andre asked them to try to move the cable around, and the signal level was back to normal. More movemenets, and the signal dropped and came back again. A temporarily cable is being used now until it is replaced with a new one tomorrow. I doubt RSR2B data will be any good. There are many error messages in the log file including clipping warnings. Except for the fact that these are long files and the sampling rate is different (1 ksps versus our normal 2 ksps), there were no issues in reducing the data. I was expecting spacecraft signals for the tests; instead, I gather a test signal was injected at some point prior to the RSR's. The results, in simple terms: No modulation seen in any data. >During this test, it was discovered that RSR2B had a bad cable! >While swaping RSR1A and RSR2A cables, someone at the station touched >RSR2B's cable and the signal level dropped significantly. Andre asked >them to try to move the cable around, and the signal level was back to >normal. More movemenets, and the signal dropped and came back again. > ... >I doubt RSR2B data will be any good. The bad cable pops ups in the middle of the first test period. Prior to that, the RSR2B levels were running about 6 dB below A/D converter saturation. This compares to 2 dB for the other three recordings. During the second test, all four levels ran about 2 dB below saturation. FYI: We see no modulation on the carrier in the DSS 65 data (14490i through 14492i; 2002/156-09:33:00 through 13:39:00) collected immediately prior to Andre's tests.
