This has been going on for months. The last I heard, you had asked Sal to look into it and there was a theory. But I never saw any real improvement -- though it tends to be low amplitude MOST of the time, whereas it was running in the 1 dB range when it first appeared. Any news? I hate to turn in an ISA on something that appears to be within the purview of radio science engineers. But we're short on alternatives. The latest, which I sent out last week, is that the station didn't have as estimate of when the problem will be fixed. Early this week, Gene Brower noticed the the anomaly in the Health Report, and asked me if a DR or ISA was written. I told him that the problem is not obvious in real-time monitoring, so I didn't ask for a DR. As for an ISA, I said that we haven't written one yet because the station is aware of the problem and our understanding is that they are working on it, but we may soon decide to write one if the problem does not get fixed. I just spoke to Sal Abbate, who just returned from Goldstone. He said that the station personnel can't seem to find time when the antenna is free to connect monitor equipment to pin down the problem. They say that the antenna is in use so much that there's not a lot of free time, and they are trying to schedule a global downtime for maintenance. Sal and I think that it's time to submit an ISA to bring more attention to the problem and put pressure on the station to fix it. If you can submit one, I'd appreciate it. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- From aseel@godzilla.jpl.nasa.gov Tue Nov 26 01:05:48 2002 Date: Thu, 21 Nov 2002 14:06:09 -0800 (PST) From: Aseel Anabtawi To: rsimpson@magellan.stanford.edu, joe@nova.stanford.edu, kusza@magellan.stanford.edu Subject: Re: MGS RST Rpt HEA2325A.TXT > It appears the gain setting for occultations 16543i through 16547i (DSS 63, > start times 2002/324-13:29:00 through 21:20:00) may have been erroneously set > expecting DSS 65.
