The DOR commands use different hardware to interface with the transponder, so they don't conflict or interfere with the commands sent by the sequence. Radio Science will need to know that we'll be continuing to use some carrier power to transmit the DOR tones, since it will reduce their SNR by about 1.5 to 2 dB. I THINK that will be OK with them (for one orbit), as long as we keep the DOR configuration the same throughout the ingress. So we shouldn't change the DOR configuration until well after occultation start. Then their signal level will at least be constant throughout the measurement. Of course, VLBI recording (of the spacecraft source) should be stopped at or before the start of occultation. Bill P.S. During the sequence command conference last week, there was a mention of another DDOR measurement during RS ingress, but that one had already occurred. I was only aware of the one that's coming up, so I called Pauline Hwang for information. She sent me the times of two DDORs that overlapped with a RS measurement. She said that for MM231A (the one that had already occurred), it wasn't planned to have the DOR tones on during the Radio Science measurement, and they have written an ISA on the matter. I checked the times, and it turns out that the DOR tones were turned off before Telemetry was turned off for our measurement, so our measurement should be OK. As for MM234C, they were unable to avoid the conflict with RS, but this is the one that we are aware of and have given the OK for. It's coming up in a couple of days.
