charset="us-ascii"; format=flowed Content-Length: 1405 Status: RO MGS and MEX Friends, A typical scenario we have been following for MGS occultations is to fix the sub-reflector (where it is, as opposed to a pre-selected angle) just prior to an occultation entry, then un-fix it at the of the occultation entry. When we also have exit occultations (not always on this mission), we do the process again. There are now times when the separation between the entry and exit occultations is only a few minutes. There was at least one incident when the sub-reflector fixing and unfixing keywords overlapped, causing complications and confusion. By that I mean, the un-fix keyword for the entry sequence has not even kicked-in when the fix keyword for the exit sequence kicked-in but it was already fixed. (Read the sentence again). A DR was written and Ricardo Torres came up with a solution of simplifying the keywords as such: fix the sub-reflector prior to occultation entry and keep it like that until after the occultation egress. What happens in-between does not matter because the spacecraft is behind the planet and is not tracked. This, of course, fails in the MSPA case, where another mission is being impacted by what we're doing with the sub-reflector. We will keep an eye on that and may have to re-visit the situation if DRs are written.
