My general conclusion is that the spacecraft is continuing to orbit but that it has gone into some odd mode that is a little hard to understand. Three occultations were observed early today (not on our list); they occurred within a second of the predicted times and within 1 dB of the expected signal levels. The MEX ranging subcarrier is causing occasional confusion; there may be a request that MEX suspend ranging. The MGS (AUX OSC) signal has not been seen since about 310/0500 (about 19 hours ago). RSR's are now joining the search. There is general consensus that the spacecraft is in SAFE mode, though the data are far from continuous. It's possible that one of the solar arrays malfunctioned; that would complicate recovery. There is discussion about turning off the MOLA heater (maybe others) to conserve power; but it's not clear that any commands radiated since last week have been received by the spacecraft. The puzzle now is why the carrier appears at some times and not others. I was going to suggest that we check the RSR recordings for the occultations at 310/0100, 310/0300, and 310/0500. WE should be able to tell whether it's really an occultation or just the TX OFF following an occultation. But it appears these were not on the scripted occultation schedule, and the spacecraft was probably on the AUX OSC frequency; so there should have been no RSR data recorded. There was discussion of the occultation at 309/2320 during the telecon; but that appeared to be a false detection of the MEX ranging subcarrier. That one DOES appear on our list of scheduled occultations; so we should look to see whether there is anything in the MGS passband when those data come in overnight. I don't think it's worth expediting delivery, so we'll just look in the morning. Based on what I heard, I'm not expecting to see anything in our occultation data. Do you have a way of confirming that DSS 25 was actually tracking MGS at the time? If there was a real-time change in coverage, we don't even need to bother looking.
