Due to the possible detection of MGS by Radioscience on DOY 317 and 322, the commanding scheduled to begin this morning to command the spacecraft to new SCP targets has been postponed. 2. To help resolve the issue of whether or not these signals seen on DOY 317 and 322 could have been MGS, several things are in work: - DSS 63 (70m in Madrid) has offered to assist in looking for MGS. We are looking at potentially scheduling DSS 63 for an entire view period. This roughly translates to beginning of track around midnight (MST) tonight to end of track around 09:00 MST tomorrow morning. - A meeting at 14:00 MST today (meet-me = 818-393-4544) between RTO, Telecom, Radioscience & the NOPEs will work out the details for the 63 pass tonight (and other passes as appropriate) in regards to sweep parameters, RSR recording parameters, timing considerations of the uplink sweeps, etc. Details that will hopefully help us resolve the question whether the two signals on 317 and 322 could have been us. 3. The signals seen on DOY 317 and 322 have led to several Telecom questions. Maria has put together a running list of questions that will be updated and maintained to help us all in better understanding the DSN/Telecom and potentially drive out areas to investigate further. Look for this list in future emails. 4. Bill and I will start to put together a comprehensive spreadsheet of all potential MGS signals. This data exists in various formats and the goal is to combine into one spreadsheet for all to use. 5. The one thing we did look into was whether the C-Mode script contained a TWNC off command. Both Dean and Kelly confirmed there are NO TWNC off commands (i.e. there is nothing in the script that enforces coherency). As to listing every orbit sweep that has been performed - that will take some time - if necessary. There have been over 300 orbits since the anomaly, of which I'd guess to say over 250 have had uplink sweeps - some 2 per orbit. Therefore, to go back and extract every sweep time would be very tedious. I asked Bill yesterday to make a list of every signal that might potentially be MGS. This list would include such things as signal strength, frequency, Doppler resids, DSN antenna, times, and other things. Then - I asked him to categorize the signal - cyclic, level, noisy, etc. Also, a level indicating how credible does the signal appear to be MGS. We brainstormed this on the whiteboard yesterday and reading the email below - it appears there is a lot of additional interest in something like this. It seems that an orbit or two of occultation info was missed on DOY 308, which occurred between OPTG deliveries - I'll try to track that information down. The times listed are all ERT, but it's a rough approximation based on a OWLT of 00:21:00. I can easily calculate the exact time if we need it for any of the orbits. It appears from the OPTG that starting today around 12:00, MEX ended it's period of occultations until May or so of next year. So from now on, they will be in Earth view all the time.
