PDS_VERSION_ID = PDS3 RECORD_TYPE = STREAM OBJECT = TEXT PUBLICATION_DATE = 1999-03-17 NOTE = "MGS RST Instrument Health Report HEA9076A.TXT" END_OBJECT = TEXT END Miscellaneous ============= Joe Twicken reports that occultation profiles from Jan-Apr 1998 are now available from the Stanford Web site: I have now given public access on our Daily Martian Weather Report web site (without any requirement for user name and password) to the TPS files which have been archived with PDS. Right now, there is access to the 88 TPS files (and their labels) from AB-1. I will provide access to additional files as we archive them with PDS. Version 2 of the MORS_1001 CD, which contains the first 88 profiles, was created at the end of last week and mailed to a short list of recipients Monday. Those include Trish Priest, PDS GEO, PDS ATM, and PDS CN (2 copies). If there are no further reports of problems, this should complete delivery of the first reduced data. These are spectral manifestations of drifting spurs which start at or near the passband edges and merge with the carrier after about 30 sec. Trish Priest has obtained the following from Bill Adams at LMA: This "little" spur is aparently the uplink sweep being turned around by the ranging channel in the transponder, not the ranging signal. The ranging modulation on the ground is timed to avoid the RS periods by at least a full minute (exact timing depends on the operator's button finger). Unfortunately the uplink sweep is timed to complete a minute before TWNC Off (transition to 2-way) on egress. So your last minute of egress RS data will frequently show this effect. If we move the sweep a minute later, to avoid your data collection period, then we will lose a minute of mapping playback during the transition to two-way. In the fixed HGA mapping sequences, we don't have any overlapping of mapping playbacks, to speak of, so I don't think we can change this timing until after HGA deployment and the start of nominal mapping. In nominal mapping there are always a few minutes of playback data that are redundant with the end of another playback. In that case we can probably tweak the drive on time on the ground a bit to keep the RS data pristine and avoid missing unique instrument data. We'll keep that in mind for the first MM sequence! Trish adds: "We don't have the problem at DSS 34, and we don't do ranging at that station." About half of the occultations have clear surface echoes in the quick look plots.
