The Spacecraft Team successfully oriented the HGA for downlink of onboard engineering data. Trish Priest has provided the following update: The telemetry from the HGA anomaly did not tell the spacecraft team much. Nothing indicated what happened or why. Today they are preparing sequences to test the HGA gimbal. They will move the gimbal 0.5 degrees in each direction and look at the telemetry. They are also looking into a way to get the HGA Earth-pointed for more than just a few orbits in order to improve communication rate. The test sequence should run sometime tomorrow morning. During the HGA telemetry session, however, SNR rose above 40 dB. The longest HGA recording above (start time 1999/109-19:07:11) did not include an occultation. From power vs time plots it appears the SCT may have overshot the HGA boresight slightly. The long recording above was at a signal level about 2 dB below its peak value, and the amplitude is unstable at the 0.5-1.0 dB level, suggesting operation on the side of the main beam. One occultation lost (starting time 1999/110-02:43:00) for unknown reasons. DSS 15 did not put the DSP in the link last night, so we got no data from those four occultations.
