During the 5 min following egress no fewer than 12 such transients passed through the carrier frequency, some with amplitudes only a couple dB lower than the carrier itself. At one point four transient signals could be identified above the carrier and four below. Onset of this interference appears to have been coincident with appearance of the carrier at egress. These data are probably a total loss for science; Simpson's surface echo extraction software wasn't even able to locate the egress event successfully. Data beginning at 1999/124-18:05:00 contain noise only and are intended for improving the "filter function" at SPC 40. Data beginning at 1999/124-23:01:00 do not contain an occultation. The HGA turned away from Earth point before ingress.
