Occultations starting at 1999/133-14:58:00 and 15:34:00 were conducted using DSP-2, but with a modified script. As was the case on 1999/124 and 125 (also at DSS 45 and with DSP-2), the data are hopelessly corrupted by signals sweeping through the passband (see HEA9125A.TXT and HEA9126A.TXT). Trish Priest reports that SPC 40 engineers have investigated, but not found a cause. In theory, the two DSP units, should be functionally equivalent. The final two runs at DSS 45 on 1999/133 were carried out using DSP-1. Attenuation on the data starting 1999/133-16:55:00 was about 5 dB too high (not a serious problem). The run starting at 1999/133-17:31:00 appears normal. There are good (ingress) surface echoes in the data starting at 1999/134-06:39:00 and 1999/134-08:37:00. There is a very strong egress surface echo in data starting at 1999/134-09:13:00. This is probably the same region which has been giving strong surface echoes on alternate days since 1999/127. But now phasing between orbits and Mars rotation is such that we are probing the area on even numbered days. Yesterday's "strong" echo was, in fact, not as impressive as the previous three. Preliminary calculations indicate that the region responsible is near (68S, 105W). The occultation at 1999/134-17:04:00 also has a very large surface echo -- near (68S, 220W).
