PDS_VERSION_ID = PDS3 RECORD_TYPE = STREAM OBJECT = TEXT PUBLICATION_DATE = 1999-06-30 NOTE = "MGS RST Instrument Health Report HEA9181A.TXT" END_OBJECT = TEXT END Errata ====== The 0.5 dB overshoot on egress noted in yesterday's report (HEA9180A.TXT) appears to be an artifact of the HGA rewind process, which we had not detected on egress at the time. More careful examination indicates the magnitude of the anomaly is about 0.25 dB and probably results from a mispointing of the HGA (Figure HEA9181A.PS1). That is, the HGA is off Earth point by about 0.2 degrees. During the final stages of the HGA rewind procedure, the boresight sweeps past the Earth before the HGA settles into its nominal pointing. Miscellaneous ============= We have completed the D1.0 upgrade on our SOPC. After installing the final set of patches, we rebooted the workstation. All JPL-provided software appears to be functional, but our data base software stopped working. We are investigating. All data from DSS 34 on 1999/178 (8 occultations) suffered from DSP errors, which probably will make them unusable for science. All ingress occultations, and most egress occultations starting on 1999/178, are corrupted by effects of the HGA rewind. See Errata above for special details regarding HGA mispointing. Earth is assumed to be along the HGA boresight at 1.038 hrs, whereas the nominal pointing gives a carrier level about 0.25 dB lower. This corresponds to a mispointing of the HGA of about 0.2 degrees. Structure at 1.031 hrs is diffraction signature resulting from surface occultation egress. The spacecraft was hidden by the surface at 1.030 hrs.
