PDS_VERSION_ID = PDS3 RECORD_TYPE = STREAM OBJECT = TEXT PUBLICATION_DATE = 1999-12-22 NOTE = "MGS RST Instrument Health Report HEA9356A.TXT" END_OBJECT = TEXT END Errata ====== The Engineering Data summary immediately below is a repeat of data we included in our report yesterday (HEA9355A.TXT). Because of the 24 hour tracking coverage, we had attempted yesterday to "catch up" a little in our collection of spacecraft engineering and DSN Monitor data. Our spacecraft data collection has been running 2-3 days behind real time, an adjustment made some months ago to account for latency in the playback and transfer schedule. We caught up one day, but it was apparent after further examination that the data for 1999/354 (1999-12-20) were incomplete; yesterday's summary included only 9 MB of spacecraft data, whereas a later query netted the expected 25 MB. The summary below covers the full 25 MB for 1999/354. A query at 6 AM PST today for data from 1999/355 (14 hours after the UTC end of day 355) yielded only 14 MB of the expected 25 MB of spacecraft data. Our strategy for the immediate future will be to submit queries approximately 36 hours after the close of each UTC day. This is not optimium in terms of spotting spacecraft radio science instrument problems, but it does appear to be a better match than our recent 40-60 hour delays. Miscellaneous ============= Note the new data type IPN under Ancillary Data. IPN files are based on MGS trajectory solutions derived by the Inner Planet Navigation Group (the Sjogren team at JPL). The original files are forwarded to NAIF, where they are converted to SPK format. Because the original files contain only the spacecraft ephemeris, we obtain ephemerides for other relevant solar system bodies from NAIF and use a NAIF utility to merge them with the spacecraft data into what we call an IPN file. The four files listed below cover the time period 1999/035 to 1999/322 and are based on the JPL 75C gravity model for Mars. IPN files will be distributed and archived in the NAIF transfer format. They can be found on-line in magellan.stanford.edu:/users/z00/IPN. Although these are the best orbit reconstructions presently available from IPNG, the MGS Radio Science Team expects to have "final" orbits based on the "final" MGS gravity model from each of the participating gravity investigators near the end of the MGS mission. But the only the data beginning at 1999/356T02:09:00 showed this strongly in quick-look processing. Eight occultations with start times from 1999/356T11:57:00 through 1999/356T18:19:00 were lost at DSS 65 because the SPC 60 DSP was down for repairs.
