PDS_VERSION_ID = PDS3 RECORD_TYPE = STREAM OBJECT = TEXT PUBLICATION_DATE = 2000-05-11 NOTE = "MGS RST Instrument Health Report HEA0132A.TXT" END_OBJECT = TEXT END Miscellaneous ============= From Gene Brower at JPL -- There was a power failure at SPC 60 this morning (2000/132). Data were lost from DSS 54 MGS coverage 09:00:00-19:15:00, but DSS 15 was brought up to capture 16:30:00-19:00:00. The Scheduling Group is currently negotiating replacement voerage for DOY 133. DSS 54 is not expected to be operational until 2000/134T10:30:00. BRO files (quick-look plots for radio occultations) for data prior to 2000/130 have been copied to CD and removed from our on-line disk system. This saves about 547 MB in the /users/z00 partition, which was over 90 percent of capacity. DSS 15 picked up MGS telemetry starting about 16:30:00, but queries for the final occultation at both stations were not successful. For more information, see Miscellaneous above. All five occultations acquired using DSS 25 suffer from apparent signal dropouts prior to ingress. The problem is most serious in the last occultation (5251i, start time 2000/132T02:31:00) with drops as large as 2 dB in 1 second averages of sample power vs time. This is the same problem noted in yesterday's report (HEA0131A.TXT), but includes all occultations this time and with considerably more severity. In contrast to episodes a few months ago, the dropouts in the latest data appear to occur only when the carrier is present.
