Joe Twicken has used the new file to confirm that Earth passes through the MGS orbit plane in the early hours of 16 December, confirming independent calculations made by Pat Esposito. This will now be the target time for Campaign F, during which TES will try to make atmospheric measurements simultaneously with Radio Science. The following is an edited version of the Pioneer request: We had to do our semi-annual earth-pointing maneuver the beginning of July. Ames controllers sent the Pioneer 10 precession maneuver sequence from DSS 63 early Saturday morning July 8, starting about 0800 UT. The procedure requires turning off the downlink transmitter to have enough power to run the attitude and conscan subsystems. It takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes. The RTLT was about 21 hours 12 minutes. We did have a scheduled 63 track on Sunday morning from 0910 to 1510. Based on the last maneuver, in February, we were pretty sure DSS 63 would not see the signal. They swept the spectrum, but did not see any hint of the signal. The distance from the Sun, and the time the transmitter is off, result in a very unstable signal. In February, it took three days before the signal had stabilized enough for us to lock up on it. Project does feel that the maneuver took place, since the signal was not seen the next day, certainly indicating a change of state. Aseel reports the Pioneer 10 signal was not seen in the SSI at DSS 14, but that was not expected. It will likely take several days to complete analysis of the DSP data. Data from occultations 6197i-6199i (DSS 65, start times 2000/209- 09:34:00, 11:32:00, and 13:29:00) have not been found. Reason is unknown.
