PDS_VERSION_ID = PDS3 RECORD_TYPE = STREAM OBJECT = TEXT PUBLICATION_DATE = 2000-10-17 NOTE = "MGS RST Instrument Health Report HEA0291A.TXT" END_OBJECT = TEXT END Miscellaneous ============= Sami Asmar passed along the following report from the MGS Project. The spacecraft continued nominal mapping operations during this week. Twice weekly sequences were uploaded and successfully executed by the spacecraft. The Laser Altimeter completed a sequence of 15 North and South pole scans without incident despite a new drop in laser power of 3.1 mj. The MOLA output is now at 18 mj with useable dayside returns estimated to 10 mj. However, at least 8 mj additional performance is expected as the spacecraft moves from aphelion to more favorable temperatures. The monthly Radio Science egress occultation maneuvers began on the morning of October 13. A new prediction of possible spacecraft orientation following the extended mission was made by LMA. The cross-sectional area of 5 square meters of the spacecraft indicates that there will be no need for an orbit raise at the end of the extended mission (April 2002) to satisfy planetary quarantine requirements and thereby permit use of this maneuver/attitude fuel for nearly a year of additional observations. Errata ====== Most of the Open Loop data described as 'not found' in yesterday's report have been located and transferred to Stanford. Details are below. Aseel Anabtawi confirms that the data were acquired successfully by the DSN. Data from occultations 7176i and 7177i (DSS 54, start times 2000/289- 09:30:00 and 11:28:00) were lost because the DSP was down. Data from occultation 7178i (DSS 25, start time 2000/289-13:25:00) were lost because the SPC server at SPC 10 was down. Data from occultation 7190i (DSS 15, start time 2000/290-12:57:00) ended abruptly at 12:57:38) -- well before ingress. Cause for the problem is unknown.
