This has two main implications for Radio Science: (1) we will not be able to acquire egress measurements during beta-supplement mode, and (2) there will be approximately 16 minutes of tracking data outage during each orbit while the HGA rewinds. In order to obtain some egress measurements, there will be four to eight days per month of fixed-HGA operations. During these periods, the spacecraft will be NADIR pointed for 12 orbits (no downlink) followed by 4 orbits with the HGA fixed and Earth-pointed (no NADIR observations). The fixed-HGA mode is very similar to the previous fixed-HGA periods which occurred both before Mapping and right after the HGA AZ gimbal anomaly. The fixed-HGA periods for March are as follows (in UTC ERT): 066/03:35 to 066/11:35 067/11:35 to 067/19:35 068/19:35 to 069/03:35 075/11:30 to 075/19:30 076/19:30 to 077/03:30 077/03:30 to 078/11:30 I will keep you informed of future fixed-HGA periods. -Trish -------------------------------------------------------------------------- From rsimpson Sun Mar 5 09:27 PST 2000 Received: (from rsimpson@localhost) by magellan.stanford.edu (8.9.3/8.9.3) id JAA20645; Sun, 5 Mar 2000 09:27:47 -0800 (PST) Date: Sun, 5 Mar 2000 09:27:47 -0800 (PST) From: Dick Simpson 723-3525 Message-Id: <200003051727.JAA20645@magellan.stanford.edu> To: flemoine@ares.gsfc.nasa.gov, rsimpson Subject: Tracking Cc: trish@rodan.jpl.nasa.gov Content-Type: text Content-Length: 567 Status: R Frank: In case you need it in the future, you might note that we are in te midst of a period of thin MGS tracking coverage.
