The sequence was radiated to the spacecraft at 035-09:36 UTC and began executing sometime after that. The Doppler residuals have been large because the predicts were created using an SPK file generated before ABX. Remember that during the gravity calibration period, we will be doing ingress two-way with telemetry on and egress one-way with telemetry off. This pass contained four orbits (8 measurements). Only three egress measurements will be useful, but this is due to a start-up problem with the predicts. The station had to use predicts generated from an SPK file with a predicted ABX manuever. Needless to say, the signal was hard to find. A new SPK file was delivered before the second egress. This file had the reconstructed ABX maneuver. We were able to generate our own one-way predicts, and they worked fine. It takes longer for the DSN to generate a full predict set for the station, however. Two-way predicts were not available for this pass until the last ingress. Occultation 1288i (035/16:27:00) Never saw a signal. Occultation 1289e (035/17:10:00) Entered many FROs. Finally found the signal; however, this will be useless for science. Occultation 1289i (035/18:20:00) It was only possible to keep the two-way signal in the passband by entering FROs every two minutes or so. I did not record these data. (The number of this occultation was incorrectly given as 1290i in the automatic e-mail message.) Occultation 1290e (035/19:08:00) First good measurement. Occultation 1290i (035/20:18:00) Had to enter FROs every two minutes. Not good for science, but we did it for practice. Occultation 1291e (035/21:07:00) Second good measurement. Occultation 1291i (035/22:16:00) More FROs for practice. Occultation 1292e (035/23:05:00) Third good measurement. For those of you who actually look at the occultation/orbit numbers, please note that ingress occurs before periapsis and egress occurs after periapsis. Therefore the orbit number changes between ingress and egress. Also, for Joe, we only scripted the last egress. We will script all measurements in the future. This was an aberation. The Doppler residuals are still large for part of the orbit and decrease to zero between apoapsis and egress. New predicts have been generated and will be loaded for use beginning at 035/23:08 (after the next egress). There is a period of about a minute every orbit when the receivers drop lock. This is the period when the spacecraft switches from inertial slew hold to array normal spin. The solar panels also move during this period. The times for these dropouts are in the SOE, but I will also provide you with a list. (The dropout occurs every orbit about 35 minutes after egress.) I will also be working on an automatic way of getting the in-lock times. Dick had a good suggestion of using a monitor data channel which indicates that the receivers are in-lock.
