Three orbits per day will be Earth-pointed, so we should obtain 6 measurements per day. The measurements will always occur between about 8:00 AM and 2:00 PM (PST). Telemetry will be turned off and TWNC will be turned on about 4 minutes 15 seconds before ingress. The signal will continue until 1 minute past occultation entry. The signal (TLM off, TWNC on) will come on again 1 minute before egress and continue until about 4 minutes 15 seconds past occultation exit. The subreflector will be fixed for all measurements. The parameters in the Mapping block would not allow a full 5 minutes of baseline. 4 minutes 15 seconds was the maximum given the current parameter constraints. Is that enough? Please let me know if it is not. This will be the mode of operation for all of Mapping, except that we will have more tracking coverage, and more measurements, once the HGA is deployed. Fixed HGA Mapping begins tomorrow (from the Radio Science perspective), and the orbit numbers will be changing this afternoon. Orbit 1683 will be a partial orbit. During that orbit, when the descending equator crossing is reached, that will mark the beginning of Mapping orbit 1. This will happen on March 9 at 02:20 UTC ERT or 6:20 PM this afternoon Pacific time. Orbits will then be counted from descending equator crossing (DEX) to DEX. The first tracking for fixed HGA Mapping begins about 068-18:19 UTC ERT at DSS45. Most of the tracking is over Canberra for the fixed HGA Mapping period. I think that you will like the surface echo. We had a SPAR initialization error, but I was there to take care of it. We only recorded about 20 seconds before egress as a result, however. The measurements are between 10AM and 4PM everyday. (I must have miscalculated somewhere before. Although this is even better!) The DSS45 pass ends around 3:30PM, so you will get the e-mail after that. We have one measurement at DSS54. Which OPTG are you using? Also, the last egress at DSS45 was lost due to multitasking -- the downside of daytime operations. When I fixed the SPAR initialization error this morning, I noticed that the last script for DSS45 had hung. But in my hurry to fix the first measurement, I forgot to redo the last script.
