The 4-panel PostScript file is in /users/z00/BRO/91241748.PS1 >I am taking the opportunity to collect some noise for you. The noise run has a (probably insignificant) amplitude spike of about 1 dB (1 sec averages) and a general drift upward of about 0.5 dB. The drift may simply be from increasing noise temperature as the ground antenna went to lower elevation angles. Nothing in this run to help explain the bizarre data just a few minutes earlier. mail trish@rodan.jpl.nasa.gov joe@neptune len@nova hinson@nimbus Subject: 1999/124 at DSS 45 Cc: Have taken a quick look (in more detail) at data from single occultation at DSS 45 earlier today. This appears to be a case in which the uplink sweeps (or equivalent leakage signals) completely overwhelmed the data. In a plot of approximately 5 minutes following egress I count no fewer than 12 spurs passing through the carrier (and not stopping). For what it's worth, there also appear to be at least 7 POCA rate changes. In detail, the strongest spurs are within a couple dB of the carrier amplitude (it's hard to imagine how this could be leakage into the downlink from the spacecraft). I can see a fundamental and 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 9th harmonics in one plot. Looking at high time resolution around egress itself, it appears the spurs develop almost simultaneously with emergence of the carrier. I will FAX an overview plot and two detailed plots. Hope this doesn't happen often! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- From trish@godzilla.jpl.nasa.gov Tue May 4 16:12:54 1999 Received: from godzilla.jpl.nasa.gov (godzilla.jpl.nasa.gov [137.78.177.120]) by magellan.Stanford.EDU (8.8.5/8.8.3) with ESMTP id QAA19088;
