PDS_VERSION = PDS3 RECORD_TYPE = STREAM OBJECT = TEXT PUBLICATION_DATE = 1997-09-12 NOTE = "MGS RST Instrument Health Report HEA7255A.TXT" END_OBJECT = TEXT END Miscellaneous ============= The NERT Cache performed very poorly in delivering Radio Science open loop data during and after MOI activities last night. Until about 30 minutes after occultation ingress, no open loop data at all could be obtained from the NERT Cache. Over the next 30 minutes we obtained part of the 5 minute segment centered on ingress at DSS 14; but more than 50 percent of the records were missing, including all containing the occultation itself. In the next 30 minutes we obtained about 80 percent of the 5-minute ingress segment from DSS 43. In the next 30 minutes we obtained 80 percent of the 5-minute egress segment from DSS 43. After 9 PM PDT, we were unable to collect ANY open loop data, including the segments we had captured before. As of 8 AM this morning the situation remained the same. ISA Z44116 was submitted last evening. DSOT says they are reconstructing the radio science portion of the NERT Cache and may have something later this afternoon. The data that we did collect were enough to set the occultation ingress time to about +/-0.1 sec and the occultation egress time to about +/-0.2 sec. But we don't believe getting 80 percent of the data records represents reasonable performance, so have removed the raw data from our files in anticipation of better results sometime soon. Errata ====== The NERT Cache problem that prevented access from 5 PM Tuesday through 9 AM Thursday was documented under ISA Z44105. We have collected, but not processed the engineering and DSN Monitor data from day 252 Tuesday (when we also collected open-loop data during the tank pressurization). We have decided to skip the data from 97/253; there simply isn't enough time to collect and process it given our current resources. There were no Radio Science activities on 97/253. These are the last engineering data before MOI. The file from 97/254 is nearly 200 MB; although the data have been captured and analyzed statistically, plots had not been completed at the time this report was written. Open Loop Data ============== Data Collection --------------- Data were acquired at DSS 14 and DSS 43. Because of the NERT Cache problems described above, we have not been able to collect enough of it to make a reasonable report. Anomalies --------- Major data delivery problems (see above). Analyses -------- Our estimates, based on the data that we did acquire, are: Ingress occultation time: 01:43:25.1+/-0.1 sec (Figure 1) Egress occultation time: 01:57:09.2+/-0.2 sec (Figure 2) The ingress event was followed almost immediate by a number of missing records (filled, in our processing, by replicating the last good record). The egress event appears to have been WITHIN one of the missing records; we can only say that the spacecraft was occulted at 01:57:08.95 and was visible at 01:57:09.45. Closed Loop Data ================ Data Collection --------------- We have obtained the following files from OSCAR and EPIC: Original File Name Name on SOPC ------------------------------ ------------ ATDF: ODF: 97254C2300.DAT;1 7254254B.ODF 97254O255.DAT;1 7254255A.ODF 97255O0145_1S.DAT;1 7255255A.ODF 97255O0145_60S.DAT;1 7255255B.ODF 97255O0215_1S.DAT;1 7255255C.ODF 97255O0215_60S.DAT;1 7255255D.ODF 97255O0230_1S.DAT;1 7255255E.ODF 97255O0230_60S.DAT;1 7255255F.ODF 97255O0300_60S.DAT;1 7255255G.ODF 97255O0400.DAT;1 7255255H.ODF 97255O0500.DAT;1 7255255I.ODF 97255O0600.DAT;1 7255255J.ODF 97255O0700.DAT;1 7255255K.ODF 97255O0800.DAT;1 7255255L.ODF 97255O1400.DAT;1 7255255M.ODF 97255O1600.DAT;1 7255255N.ODF 97255O2000.DAT;1 7255255O.ODF IONCAL: TROPCAL: WEATHER: EOP: Ancillary Data ============== Data Collection --------------- We have obtained the following files from the CDB and other sources: Original File Name Name on SOPC ------------------------------ ------------ AMD: LIT: MIF: MPD: mpdf.FINAL_ab1 7259260A.MPD ONF: OPT: optg_970912_OD001_004_V1 7255260A.OPT PCK: SCK: SFO: SOE: SPK: spk_970912_OD001_004_V1 7255260A.SPK TCK: Figure Captions =============== HEA7255A.PS1: Open-loop sample power versus time during MOI occultation ingress (DSS 43). Plotted points are sums of squared sample values over 0.1 sec. The drop in power at 1.72364 hrs UTC (ERT) is the occultation event. Repeated values immediately after (and before 1.7238) indicate one missing DSP record; repeated values after 1.7238 indicate many more missing records. Sample values included in the power calculation are from a bandwidth of 2500 Hz. HEA7255A.PS2: Same as previous figure except for egress. Repeated values over 1.9522-1.9524 and between 1.95244 and 1.9526 are symptomatic of missing records (our software repeats the last good record when it detects a missing record). The second set of missing records appears to fall exactly on top of the egress event; so we can only place bounds on the egress time. Figures ======= Plot(s) illustrate some of the points made in the text. Each plot is a PostScript file, created and printable on our SOPC. For report text file HEAydddC.TXT Figure N will be labeled HEAydddC.PSN and sent as the N+1st e-mail message of a set. We assume that you can strip off the e-mail headers and either display or print copies of the figures on a machine in your area.
