Open Loop Data ============== Data Collection --------------- No new data. Closed Loop Data ================ Data Collection --------------- We have obtained the following files from OSCAR and EPIC: Original File Name Name on SOPC ------------------------------ ------------ ATDF: ODF: 97266O276.DAT;1 7266267A.ODF 97267O267.DAT;1 7267267A.ODF 97264O264_D45.DAT;8 7264264D.ODF 97267O1900.DAT;2 7267267B.ODF IONCAL: TROPCAL: WEATHER: EOP: 970923-eop.long 20207301.EOP 970923-eop.short 63017301.EOP Anomalies --------- Frank Lemoine has been monitoring quality of ODF data. He notes apparent use of uplink ramping, which was contrary to expectations. Part of Frank's report is included here: Ordinarily the ramp rate is set to zero in all the data we have dealt with - but on this day (day 259 or 09/16) ramping occurs for both Canberra and Madrid. It also occurs for Goldstone on the previous day (09/15). Our preprocessor was set to reject ramped data. We were under the impression that Doppler data would be unramped on MGS. We need to know if this ramping was a one-time occurrence, or whether it is likely to happen again. Getting set up to process ramped data from MGS will take quite a heavy investment in software development. We finally, after many years of agony, got the ramped Doppler from Magellan to work. We would prefer not to have to go through the same torture with MGS ramped data, unless we know there will be more times when the data will be ramped. Ancillary Data ============== Data Collection --------------- We have obtained the following files from the CDB and other sources: Original File Name Name on SOPC ------------------------------ ------------ AMD: LIT: MIF: MPD: ONF: OPT: PCK: SCK: SFO: p0081.02.sfos 7266270A.SFO SOE: p0081.02.soe 7266270A.SOE SPK: TCK: mgs_spice_c_kernel_1997-266.ck 7266266A.TCK Analysis -------- Frank Lemoine has been working with CK files. Although this note deals with MOLA rather than RS, I thought it might be of interest: Just for the record, the c-kernel/quaternion information for 09/15 looks good. We used those quaternions to geolocate the altimeter data, and ... we were able to verify that using the quaternions cleaned up the alt data - by taking into account off-nadir pointing angles of up to two degrees during the MOLA pass. Also the engineers saw three glints or anomalies at other times that corresponding to the altimeter detectors briefly tracking across Mars when the s/c was spinning prior to and after the pass (MOLA was on for +/- 5 hrs, I think) (immediately before and after the pass the s/c was in array normal spin, and only went nadir pointing to get the alt data).
