We have resubmitted the query and will report results tomorow. Engineering Data ================ No new data. Open Loop Data ============== Data Collection --------------- The following is based on a report from Trish Priest: Occultation #6 went smoothly. This measurement was over DSS-15. Once again, RS-generated predicts were used; we have now loaded RS-generated predicts into the DSP at all three complexes. The signal strength appears to be between 40 and 45 dB above the noise on the SSI display. There were no apparent problems. The DSP was set in the standard configuration. Record Time: 028-23:18:00 to 028-23:33:00 One-way w/ TLM off: 028-23:18:18 to 028-23:32:35 Expected Surface Begin: 028-23:30:35 The automatic transfer of data between the CDR and the TDS should be functioning again. At Stanford we have obtained the following Mars radio occultation open loop data from the NERT Cache. YYYY/DDD DSS DSP SAMP BW DSP BIT TRK REC RECS RECS SNR START STOP RATE MODE RESN MODE LEN MSSG -------- --- -------- -------- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----- ---- ----- 1998/028 15 23:18:18 23:33:00 5000 2000 2 12 1-W 1666 4411 0 50. Anomalies --------- DSP buffering problems on 98/024 caused loss of records, as was noted in previous reports (e.g., HEA8028A.TXT). Closer examination of the data shows that the samples which WERE obtained do not have the correct time tags. Although it might be possible to re-establish synchronism, we feel the return from expending effort to do so would be minimal. There was no surface occultation and there are no indications that surface echoes were captured. We consider these data to be "lost," but the impact is zero. Data from the 1998/028 de facto USO Test and occultation have not yet reached the NERT Cache. Analysis -------- Closer examination of power vs time profiles on the first two surface occultations shows irregular increases and decreases before the geometrical occultation. The plot from 98/027 is included here as Figure HEA8029A.PS1. We assume that the amplitude structure results from multi-path (or limb topography) as the raypath intercepted the surface at a very oblique angle. But we have not attempted a detailed analysis to confirm either hypothesis. Closed Loop Data ================ Data Collection --------------- We have obtained the following files from OSCAR and EPIC: Original File Name Name on SOPC ------------------------------ ------------ ODF: 98028O029.DAT;1 8028029A.ODF 98029O029.DAT;1 8029029A.ODF 9802901209.DAT;1 8029029B.ODF Ancillary Data ============== Data Collection --------------- We have obtained the following files from the CDB: Original File Name Name on SOPC ------------------------------ ------------ AMD: amdgen.P109.out 8028028B.AMD OPT: optg_i_980128_OD109_119_V1 8028037A.OPT SAK: mgs_solar_array_1998-028.ck 8028028A.SAK SFO: p110b.00.sfos 8029031A.SFO SFO: p110b.01.sfos 8029031B.SFO SFO: p110c.00.sfos 8029031C.SFO SFO: p110c.01.sfos 8029031D.SFO SFO: p110d.00.sfos 8029031E.SFO SFO: p110d.01.sfos 8029031F.SFO SFO: p110e.00.sfos 8029031G.SFO SFO: p110e.01.sfos 8029031H.SFO SOE: p110b.00.soe 8029030A.SOE SOE: p110b.01.soe 8029030B.SOE SOE: p110c.00.soe 8029031A.SOE SOE: p110c.01.soe 8029031B.SOE SOE: p110d.00.soe 8029031C.SOE SOE: p110d.01.soe 8029031D.SOE SOE: p110e.00.soe 8029031E.SOE SOE: p110e.01.soe 8029031F.SOE SPK: spk_i_980128_OD109_119_V1 8028037A.SPK TCK: mgs_spice_c_kernel_1998-028.ck 8028028A.TCK Figure Captions =============== HEA8029A.PS1: Power in raw samples vs time at the grazing occultation on 98/027. Each plot is a PostScript file, created and printable on our SOPC. For report text file HEAydddC.TXT Figure N will be labeled HEAydddC.PSN and sent as the N+1st e-mail message of a set. We assume that you can strip off the e-mail headers and either display or print copies of the figures on a machine in your area. People who have indicated that they cannot handle these files by e-mail are not included in the e-mail distribution of figures.
