PDS_VERSION_ID = PDS3 RECORD_TYPE = STREAM OBJECT = TEXT PUBLICATION_DATE = 1999-02-17 NOTE = "MGS RST Instrument Health Report HEA9048B.TXT" END_OBJECT = TEXT END Errata ====== 1. The paragraph below in yesterday's report (HEA9047A.TXT) should be amended as indicated. Original: Data from the next 11 occultations (start times 1999/043-14:09:00 through 1999/044-00:04:00, inclusive) have never been "announced" by Remote Operations. We will try to find them after the other backlogged data from the weekend have been cleared. Revised: Data from 9 of the next 11 occultations (start times 1999/043- 14:08:00 through 1999/044-00:02:00, inclusive) were not "announced" by Remote Operations but have been collected by submitting a "broad" query designed to capture any data available from within the occultation period. Two of the occultations (start times 1999/043-16:57:00 and 1999/043-18:05:00) were lost because of operator typos in setting up the remote operations. 2. The paragraph below in yesterday's report (HEA9047A.TXT) should be amended as indicated. Original: Data from occultations beginning approximately 1999/044-13:52:00 and 1999/044-21:47:00 have been announced by Remote Operations but have not been found on the Mgs_CDR_QueryServer. Revised: Data from the occultation beginning at 1999/044-13:52:00 were lost when the DSP failed and had to be rebooted. The rebooting process took long enough that the subsequent occultation (start time 1999/044-14:41:00) was missed, though some one-way data after the egress were captured. Data from the occultation starting at 1999/044-21:46:00 were lost to an apparent SPA-R initialization failure. Miscellaneous ============= This supplements the earlier report (HEA9048A.TXT) by providing information on open-loop data acquired and processed in the past 24 hrs. With data transfers running nearly constantly, we have been able to query for ODS data at about twice the rate they are collected by the DSN. With improvements in RSST software announcing acquisition of open- loop data and better warning of coverage gaps, our rate of query failures (e.g., data "not found") has dropped noticeably in the most recent 24 hr period. Amplitude reached 0.6 dB peak-to-peak with 60-sec period in data beginning 1999/045-03:42:00, superimposed on a longer time-scale drift that resulted in an overall fluctuation of about 1.5 dB in carrier level prior to occultation 1403i. Longer period (90-sec) and weaker oscillations (0.2 dB p-p) can be seen in most DSS 45 data from 1999/045 and 1999/046. Ingress occultations (with telemetry ON) continued to have SNR about 38 dB, while egress occultations (telemetry OFF) continued at about 54 dB -- both with HEF antennas. Use of DSS 14 yielded the highest SNR to date (62.4 dB) from the egress occultation at 1999/045-12:26:00. This, and the preceeding occultation, show puzzling spectral content 500-800 Hz below the carrier at approximately the time of egress. There was no DSN coverage for 5 occultations with start times approximately 1999/045-08:12:00 through 1999/045-12:10:00, inclusive.
