PDS_VERSION_ID = PDS3 RECORD_TYPE = STREAM OBJECT = TEXT PUBLICATION_DATE = 1999-03-02 NOTE = "MGS RST Instrument Health Report HEA9061A.TXT" END_OBJECT = TEXT END Errata ====== Coordinates given for the surface echo occultation point in HEA9057A.TXT were incorrect. (80S,153E) is the sub-spacecraft location at egress; the occultation point (and, hence, the region probed by the grazing surface ray) is near (73S, 0E). Since latitude of the occultation point is relatively constant in the current viewing geometry, the surface ray should probe potential landing sites for the Mars 98 Polar Lander as the planet rotates. All ingress occultations at DSS 65 have amplitude variations +/-0.3 dB resulting from ramping and receiver filter ripple. Generally, all ingress occultations have about 16 dB lower SNR because telemetry is ON. Data from 6 occultations within the time span covered by the table above have not been found. Cause for the losses is not known. Times and stations are as follows: Start Time Stop Time DSS ----------------- ----------------- --- 1999/059-00:13:00 1999/059-00:28:00 65 1999/059-01:03:00 1999/059-01:12:00 65 1999/059-03:00:00 1999/059-03:09:00 65 1999/059-04:58:00 1999/059-05:07:00 65 1999/059-06:56:00 1999/059-07:05:00 65 1999/060-20:18:40 1999/060-20:44:00 45 Data starting at 1999/059-12:49:00 have a pronounced surface echo. The two following egress occultations show more modest echoes. Occultation points should be near 74S latitude and 100W, 130W, and 160W longitudes, respectively. Data from 22 occultations between 1999/059-20:40:00 and 1999/060-18:17:00, inclusive, were lost because the spacecraft was involved in NADIR testing and the HGA was not available for occultations. Attenuators were set about 10 dB too high on the occultation which began at 1999/059-15:54:00.
