Ordinarily the ramp rate is set to zero in all the data we have dealt with - but on this day (day 259 or 09/16) ramping occurs for both Canberra and Madrid. It also occurs for Goldstone on the previous day (09/15). Our preprocessor was set to reject ramped data. We were under the impression that Doppler data would be unramped on MGS. We need to know if this ramping was a one-time occurrence, or whether it is likely to happen again. Getting set up to process ramped data from MGS will take quite a heavy investment in software development. We finally, after many years of agony, got the ramped Doppler from Magellan to work. We would prefer not to have to go through the same torture with MGS ramped data, unless we know there will be more times when the data will be ramped. So, to summarize - the reason we were not "seeing" data on 09/16, was that the data were apparently ramped (Both Canberra through 0347, and Madrid from 1233 to about 1700 on 09/15 are ramping). Can we please get a clarification on this issue? Frank Lemoine PS- Another unwelcome possibility, is that the station were not ramping, but that the ramp record on the ODF is erroneous. We have not yet tested that hypothesis. It would be nice to get confirmation that indeed ramping was going on. PPS - in dissecting the ODF's we learned something else: There apparently is not a one-to-one mapping between orbit data records and ramp records - ie there can be more ramp records than there are actual data records. Now that we know this is a possibility, this has helped to make the preprocessor more robust. For the uninitiated, ramp records always appear, even when df/dt = 0, and it is from the ramp records that one needs to read the frequency of the observable. > > 970915 2000 10.00 970915 2003 30.00 >
