We will record the data to tape during the occultation; then we will retransmit the data through the usual reliable route at a low rate after the occultation is complete. The hope is that this takes some of the processing load off of the RSCP while it is creating records, giving it more CPU cycles to use in aligning time tags. The tapes will be kept at the station for 3 days and then will be recycled. The data should be available on the TDS about an hour later than usual. There are two passes over the weekend that end shortly after the occultation. For these passes, it may be necessary to retransmit over the next pass at that station. Since it is the weekend, there will not be anyone using the DSP except for us. Because of the low data rate, it will take longer to retransmit the data than it did to record the data. Therefore, we will limit the egress recording to 10 minutes after egress. (I have discussed this with Dave Hinson.) We will begin recording the usual 5 minutes before egress. Finally, the occultation ingresses are moving toward periapsis. As I mentioned at the team meeting, once the ingress is within 35 minutes of periapsis, it will be within the LGA periapsis period. We will no longer be able to collect HGA data for ingress. According to the latest OPTG file, the last HGA ingress occultation will be occultation #143 on DOY 108 (April 18th). I have asked the spacecraft team if there is any pad in the 35 minutes, and I have asked them to verify that we will get the occultations right up to and including #143. We will continue to record LGA occultations -- both ingress and egress -- until the solar conjunction period which begins on DOY 120 at 00:00:00.
