There IS a signal in the center of the passband at start of recording. SNR is about 9 dB in 1 Hz bandwidth; you might not have seen that on a standard SSI display. Levels are about 6 dB higher than normal, and there is some evidence for clipping. After about 90 sec, the levels drop by about 5 dB; but the signal is still there. After another 30 sec, the level drops more (1 dB over 2 kHz). And the signal fades away. There is no evidence of FRO activity; if you waited more than a couple minutes after DSP record, I wouldn't see that. On the other hand, an FRO of more than 1 kHz at the 2 minute mark could have caused the "fade". Noise level after the fade is very steady -- not what you'd expect if a huge rainstorm were pelting Canberra. There may indeed be a timing problem. But it appears that there was something else going on as well. I'll FAX you the quick-look plot in case it does you any good for the next occultation. I'm about to head home, so phone quickly if you want to chat. But I don't have much more than what's in the plot. This anomaly was encountered (at DSS-65 only) from DOY 324 (20 November) to DOY 337 (03 December) and spanned eight ATDFs. All of the ATDFs (files 98325T326, 98326T327, 98327T329, 98328T330, 98332T333, 98333T334, 98334T335, and 98335T337) have been corrected, and are available [via OSCAR2] upon request to RMDC. An ODF, 98325O335.RMP, which contains only the corrected ramps (for merging with previously delivered files) has now been placed in NAVOPS$DISK:[NST.SC94] on both OSCAR and OSCAR2.
