The Ops Chief, Jerry, and the personnel at SPC 60 put the DSP in a link without a spacecraft (out of everyone's way) so that Sal could have the station and I try several things to get the system back up and running. Our efforts were to no avail, however. Jerry and the SPC 60 personnel went above and beyond the call and deserve our thanks. Maintenance personnel are not expected at SPC 60 until Tuesday. I don't think that we can call them in specially, but I am looking into it -- especially with thoughts to Mapping. If the DSP is not repaired before Tuesday in Madrid, we will lose occulations 852e (just lost that one); 853i,e; 858i,e; 859i,e; 864i,e; and maybe 865i. Occ 868i/e both look as though DSS 34 wasn't even pointing at the spacecraft. There's carrier there, but it's down in the noise. Best SNRs are 14 and 17 dB, rather than the expected 38 dB. Almost perfectly centered, so tuning predicts were very good. We had similar data from Occ 236i/e at DSS 45 (1998/338-23:59:00 and 1998/339-01:07:00). Huge rainstorm? Pointing error? Is there something in the station log that would explain? Guess we'll have more of these as you experiment with unattended ops; but don't let that stop your experiments. 62 minutes from end of DSP recording to plots here at Stanford. That includes a processing run in which I forgot to initialize plotting; and your e-mail post-dated the DSP stop time, so no cheating.
