This experiment was the first blank run that used the solid sample handling system and the pyrolysis oven. It revealed that derivatization reagent, N-methyl-N-tert-butyldimethylsilyltrifluoroacetamide (MBSTFA), was present in the sampling handling system. The reaction product of this compound with water, known as 1,3-bis(1,1-dimethylethyl)-1,1,3,3-tetramethyldisiloxane, was the most significant compound detected during this experiment. Compounds trapped on the SAM hydroarbon trap during this experiment were not processed through the GC until the following run, TID 25033. Estimate of the abundance of MTBSTFA initially present during this run was based on measurements of the GC peak in TID 25033 and the total peak area under the evolved gas curve from TID 25032. In addition, the background on m/z values characteristic of water and toluene rose throughout the run but did not produce distinct peaks.
