This experiment was designated CB-8. It was the first step of a 4-step sequence which combusted a triple portion sample from the Cumberland drill site, loaded on top of the residue from the previous CB-2 single-portion experiment. In this step, the sample was heated to approximately 550 deg C with no added oxygen, then held at this temperature for 25 minutes. Afterward, as the gas in the oven was expanded into the manifold and TLS, the QMS sampled the gas. This was followed by TLS analysis. Because the pressure of gas produced during heating was too high for safe QMS analysis, no QMS data were obtained during this experiment.
