Interpretation and Use of Binary ATDF/TDF Data
1.16.0.0
Product_Document
Simpson, R. A.
2020
This document is a description of how to extract values from a binary Archival Tracking Data File
(ATDF or TDF) described by the NASA DSN TRK-2-25 Software Interface Specification (SIS). A TDF
from Cassini is used as an example. A complete translation of the Cassini file is included as part
of the document. A second TDF from Voyager is also referenced; its structure is slightly different,
but only general guidelines for unpacking are included in the document.

A description of how values in a TDF are generated and how one might use them.

document_to_associate
A description of radio science performance analysis software developed by the Radio
Science Systems Group (RSSG) at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). The software
reconstructs observable frequencies and calculates model frequencies, frequency
residuals, frequency stability (Allan deviation), reconstructed phase, frequency
and phase power spectral density, and frequency drift rates. Readers are advised that
some of the equations presented by Morabito and Asmar are for special situations within
a more general context described by Moyer (2000); choice of coefficients, observation of
flags, etc. should be done carefully. That said, this is a relatively readabe description
of how one might use values from a TDF file written in the 1995 time frame.
