      <description>This file contains summary statistics on rock 
        distributions at the Viking Lander 1 site according to surface type. The    
        table gives number of rocks and their surface area as a function of rock     
        diameter and surface type. The values were derived from table vl1axrat.csv. 
        Bin boundaries were set at 1/128th meter and at powers of SQRT(2)  
        larger (0.008, 0.011, ... , 1.000, 1.414 m). Rocks were sorted into bins according     
        to diameter, the area covered was estimated, and running sums were         
        computed for three surface types (drift material, far field, and near      
        field). Total area for each surface type at VL1 was:                      
        15.27 square meters (drift material)                         
        57.85 square meters (far field)                              
        10.48 square meters (near field)                             
        The inter-rock area in the far field was 56.1745 square meters, where      
        inter-rock was taken to mean area not covered by a rock of diameter        
        0.25 meters or larger. Inter-rock area in the near field was 10.4240      
        square meters. Ratio of the total inter-rock area (far field plus near    
        field) to the near field inter-rock area was 6.3890.</description>
