MESSENGER: MLA

May 12, 2017. MESSENGER Release 16 includes revised MLA altimeter profiles (RDRs) and a northern-hemisphere DEM (GDR). It also includes a set of SPICE SPK kernels supporting the navigation ephemeris correction measurements performed by the MLA team during the final months of the mission. See the ERRATA.TXT file in the top-level directory for details.

The revised RDR and GDR products in this release are provided on a new archive volume, MESSMLA_2101. This volume contains only RDR and GDR products, plus the SPK kernels; no CDRs or RADRs. The revisions are due to calibration and data processing improvements; however, the previous versions of these products will remain available on volume MESSMLA_2001. See below for links to both volumes.

MLA is the Mercury Laser Altimeter instrument on MESSENGER. The data sets are produced by the MLA Science Team at the NASA / Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, Maryland.

MLA Data Sets

Raw Data Products
MLA EDR - Mercury Laser Altimeter Experiment Data Records
Derived Data Products
MLA RDR and GDR data, version 2 (MESSMLA_2101) - Mercury Laser Altimeter Reduced Data Records (profile data) and Gridded Data Records, revised products for the final MESSENGER release, covering the entire mission. See ERRATA.TXT for details.

MLA CDR, RDR, RADR, and GDR data, version 1 (MESSMLA_2001) - The final versions of CDR and RADR products, and the previously released RDR and GDR products. See ERRATA.TXT on this volume for details.

Online Tools

Mercury Orbital Data Explorer - Provides search, display, and download  tools for this data set.
Mercury Footprint Coverage Explorer - Part of the Mercury ODE, this page links to product coverage maps in Google Earth and other formats.
MESSENGER QuickMap - This simple, interactive map interface used by the MESSENGER science team is now available to the public.
