LCROSS - Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite

December 8, 2020. LCROSS Earth-based PDS4 Archives

The LCROSS earth-based archives at the Geosciences Node have been migrated to the PDS4 standard.

October 16, 2020. LCROSS Spacecraft PDS4 Archives

LCROSS spacecraft archives at the Geosciences Node have been migrated to the PDS4 standard. This includes raw and calibrated data for all instruments.

The original PDS3 data products, labels, and documentation remain available in their original archive volumes. The only change is that PDS4 labels and documentation have been added to the archives. The original data files are unchanged.

LCROSS was launched as a secondary payload with the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) on June 18, 2009. After LRO separated to perform its mission, LCROSS used the spent Atlas upper stage, called the Centaur, to impact the moon while LCROSS instruments observed the resulting ejecta cloud. The LCROSS shepherding spacecraft then became an impactor itself. Many Earth-based telescopes observed both impacts on October 9, 2009.

LCROSS archives in PDS include data from the LCROSS instruments and from selected Earth-based observations sponsored by the LCROSS Project.
