InSight: IDA (Instrument Deployment Arm)

September 29, 2023.  InSight Release 18 includes new IDA video and calibration collections as well as revisions to the IDA document collection. See the Release Notes for details.

The InSight Instrument Deployment Arm (IDA) has two primary objectives.  The first is to point the Instrument Deployment Camera (IDC) for imaging of the Martian terrain surrounding the lander.  The second is to deploy the InSight science instruments from the lander deck to the Martian surface.  The IDA archive includes raw sensor data that can be used to reconstruct these arm movements.

Additionally, the IDA may be used to alter the terrain to prepare it for deployment of the science instruments and to perform soil mechanics experiments. The IDA archive includes calibrated data and video products for the soil mechanics experiments.
